Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder

August 12th 2019

This powder is very finely milled and quite silky to the touch. It leaves a natural finish on the skin. You can use it to set the undereye area and face, or it can even be used to bake. Yes, these are all positive qualities of this powder. So why the unsatisfactory two-star rating? For one major reason: this powder is NOT translucent. When I would use it to set my undereye area, it would darken my concealer and give this very odd dark yellow tone to the area. I thought maybe it was just me.... or maybe it was just the concealer I was using. But no, sadly this happened with every concealer I tried. The only thing I can think is that the color of the powder itself is darker than my skintone and/or concealer shades. (I am on the fair side, for reference.) If the powder were truly translucent, the strange yellow tone would not happen. For this reason, and this reason alone, I cannot use this powder. Therefore, no matter how many great qualities I feel the powder has, it still will not work for me. Hence, two stars. (If the "translucent" shade is not actually translucent and turns my skin yellow, then all the great and wonderful qualities [of the powder don't amount to a hill of beans, because I cannot use it.)
